Types of Breast Cancer

The term “breast cancer” describes not one, but many forms of disease. Breast cancer is categorized based upon the origin and type of the cell from which a tumor arises.

This video discusses the various classifications of breast cancer. Breast cancer can be divided into ductal or lobular cancer depending upon where in the breast a tumor is located. Cancers are also differentiated based upon whether tumor cells have receptors for the hormones estrogen or progesterone. The treatment recommended for breast cancer will differ depending upon the type of cancer that is detected.

At The Breast Institute at JFK Medical Center, we offer mammography services to detect breast cancer early. Call (561) 548-3553 to schedule your appointment or to find out more about your diagnostic and treatment options. Visit our website to learn more about our hospital and our mission.
